Well, I dunno if someone has already made a thread about this topic, but, in any case, I believe its worth mentioning it more than once.

As most people here would know already, homosexual, bisexual and transexual people are many times the target of abuse, threats, harassment or even violence (either physical, psychological or sexual). Many LGBT youth who are on the critical stages of their development as teenagers are ostracized and bullied by their peers. This has led recently to a wave of suicides across the U.S.A. that involved young, homosexual/bisexual (or suspected to be) men and boys between the ages of 13 and 19, that feared the reactions of their friends and family. I dont want to make a debate around this. Maybe homosexual and bisexual people commit suicide everyday and now that the media is focusing in the problem rather than ignoring it is why people talk more openly about it. Or maybe this kids were having a really rough time and its surprising there was no one around to try and tell them that life still goes on, no friends, no family, no therapists, no teachers... anyway, what I wanted to do is make known in this forum a campaign that I found the other day in the Internet. I dunno if you guys have heard about it, its called "It gets better", and everyone can participate on it. There has been videos on the site by famous people (homosexual, bisexual and straight) to try and tackle the problem.

Well, on my part I think that this is a problem that must be adressed. Statistics show us that many gay and bisexual people (especially young ones) attemp suicide or self-harm every year, and are most at risk for these behaviors than straight youth. Mostly what leads to this are rejection by peers and/or family or difficulty to come to term with one own´s sexual orientation. We can sit down and spend the whole day talking about theories, but what I know is this: If we can prevent of a child taking his/her own life, then its worth to publicize this. I would like to teach them that adolescence it just a phase, that after that comes adulthood, and adulthood is really the amazing part :) The part where one can be what he wants to be. Besides, not everything is bad in high school, most gay and bi people (at least where I live) have friends who are straight there.

Also another worthy project is the trevor project (http://www.thetrevorproject.org/)
